The man who police held for questioning in connection with the killing of more than 40 cats in Manenberg has died of cancer.
Jonathan Wilson, 47, died of stomach cancer in hospital on Saturday September 25, according to Manenberg station commander Brigadier Sanele Zama.
Manenberg police took him in for questioning on Friday August 20, after 44 cats were killed and disembowelled in Manenberg from July until September (“Serial cat killings: kitten’s head found on stoep,“ Athlone News, September 1).
Police received two videos showing a tan pit bull cross-breed and a short-haired terrier – just like the ones found on the property where Mr Wilson lived– catching cats and killing them (“Cat killings: man questioned, dogs seized,” Athlone News, August 25).
He was released two days later due to insufficient evidence, but the dogs on the property were confiscated by the Animal Welfare Society after they showed signs of abuse and neglect.
Mr Wilson had denied being the owner of the property or the animals.
