Athlone police arrested two men on Tuesday December 7 in connection with a robbery at Gatesville post office during which R370 000 was stolen.
According to Athlone police station’s spokeswoman, Sergeant Zita Norman, two men entered the post office, with one of them showing everyone his gun, telling them no one would be killed.
The manager on duty was told to open the safe and once the suspects took the money out of the safe they fled the scene but were caught by police outside of the post office.
They appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday December 9 and the case was postponed to Friday December 17. Another two suspects who were waiting outside of the post office fled the scene on foot with the cash. Anyone with information can call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
