Kariema Taliep Davids, of Wetton, has written two children’s books, but her latest offering is a racy romance novel for adults only.
A Passionate Love is the first of three books in the Masqued Love series, and with some raunchy sex scenes, it has an age restriction of 21.
It took Ms Davids from February to May to write the book, and proofreading, editing and production took a further three months.
“Some people asked me why I switched genres from children’s stories to spicy love stories, but this was one of my milestones on the to-do bucket list,” she says.
She sees herself as a writer capable of tackling multiple genres, and has no intention of leaving children’s writing behind, she adds.
“A Passionate Love is a story set in London and Paris. It is based on an English girl, Catherine Darcy Evans, and a French man, Jacques Dupont. They fall madly in love. Catherine is a widow who lost her husband and is unaware her new love was involved in her husband’s death.”
She says the book has a “happily ever after ending”.
Married for 36 years, Ms Davids has two sons, aged 35 and 27, and two grandchildren. She wanted to write a children’s story 30 years ago when her sons were children but she always put it on hold.
Then, in 2020, her granddaughter, Haniyah, inspired her to make her writing dream a reality, and she published her first book, Haniyah and Pink Rabbit, in March last year, when Haniyah was 3.
“She made me realise that writing is what I always wanted to do.”
In her second book, Haniyah Goes to School, published in November last year, Haniyah encounters a boy who is left traumatised after being bullied at school, but the boy’s father’s words give him strength and courage to face his fears, and he becomes a hero.
Ms Davids says she has already started working on the second book in her Masqued Love series.
A Passionate Love is self-published and sells for R300. Contact Ms Davids at 063 864 1701 for more information.
