Despite the financial challenges faced by some of the families of pupils at Bridgeville Primary School, they still managed to share what they have, and will ensure that at least 25 families will be able to enjoy a meal this festive season.
This act of kindness has spread joy among the school community – especially when they presented the 25 buckets to the Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled (CTAPD) in Bridgetown.
The CTAPD runs an annual project called the Buckets of Hope, where hampers are filled with non-perishable food, and handed out to their underprivileged clients.
Co-ordinator of the project, Fatima Martin, said they usually call on the public’s help to make this a reality, and Bridgeville Primary School has been a long-standing partner in this venture.
Principal Stanley Allies, said it’s a blessing that those who do not have much, still share the little that they have.
“We have 21 classrooms and the target was to fill at least one bucket a class. We went beyond the target and filled 25 buckets. We have different social challenges facing our community, but despite this, the parents and children put in so much effort. This comes from the heart. We take pride in teaching our pupils the value about caring and sharing. The children took on this project with such enthusiasm. It created a lot of excitement and it was good to see their eagerness to be part of it,” Mr Allies said.
He also praised the staff for their commitment, adding that it is an honour to be the manager of a school with such a good team.
Ms Martin said the joy on the clients’ faces when they receive their bucket is indescribable.
“Bridgeville Primary has never said no to the CTAPD, and we can never express our gratitude enough. The children here are on the right path.
“We would like to thank the entire school community for their unselfish effort and may this relationship continue for a long time to come,” Ms Martin said.
