Police arrested a 26-year-old man in Hanover Park last Thursday for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Officers busy with random searches in the area stopped a man and woman in Landry Walk after midnight.
According to Philippi police spokesman Captain Lance Goliath, the man was carrying a .38 Rossi revolver with the serial number removed and ammunition.
Police acting on a tip-off arrested an 18-year-old man on drug charges on Wednesday July 24, at 2.30pm.
Captain Goliath said the man had been caught trying to dispose of a bag of mandrax, tik, and heroin in Surdown Walk. The drugs had an estimated street value of R1Â 000.
On the same day, police arrested a 29-year-old man for theft. Security guards patrolling Burwood Road had found him carrying a stolen municipal water meter.
Three men robbed Bangla Bazaar, in Mable Road, Rylands, on Tuesday July 23, at 2pm.
The robbers threatened the 24-year-old shopowner with a gun and knives.
They took his Galaxy A30 and one Galaxy S8, five cartons of cigarettes, R3500 cash, R1000 airtime, five different deodorants, soap, and a hard drive containing CCTV footage.
No shots were fired and no one was injured. The robbers are still at large.
Muggers robbed a man in Church Street, Lansdowne, on Monday July 22, at 6pm.
Walking to a shop, the man passed two men in a parked Toyota Corolla with no licence plates. One of the men came from behind, pointed a gun at him and took his iPhone 6. The men sped off in the Toyota and are still at large.
