Manenberg SAPS is investigating the death of a 40-year-old man, after he was seen stumbling and collapsing on the corner of Klipfontein Road and Duinefontein Road on Sunday April 30.
According to Manenberg SAPS spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett, it is alleged that the occupants of an unidentified vehicle turned into Klipfontein Road, while firing random shots down Duinefontein Road.
“The 40-year-old man tried running for cover and this is when he collapsed and died. He has no visible injuries on him and it seems as if he succumbed to other medical reasons which are to be determined. Detectives are following up information of someone that was injured by the gunfire and taken away by private transport for medical attention,” Captain Bennett said.
In a separate incident, a 32-year-old man was shot and killed in the parking area of Modacks Wholesalers in Manenberg, also on Sunday April 30.
“It’s alleged that the man and his female companion were driving in a white Toyota Camry. As they pulled up in the parking area, a lone gunman approached the car and fired several shots at the car. The man pushed the woman out of the car as he tried running for cover. He was hit in his back and succumbed to his injuries. The woman managed to run away unhurt. The suspect fled the scene on foot along The Downs Road.
“Initial investigation revealed that the vehicle in which they were travelling was hijacked within the Manenberg policing precinct earlier this month and is identified as a possible vehicle used in a drive-by shooting in Joyce Court, Manenberg, where someone was fatally wounded. A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened for investigation. No arrest has been made,” Captain Bennett said.
