A 25-year-old man was shot and killed on Tuesday March 19 at the Vygieskraal squatter camp in Belgravia Estate, Athlone.
According to Athlone SAPS spokeswoman, Sergeant Zita Norman, it is alleged that the community heard a gunshot inside one of the shacks within the squatter camp and on further investigation they found the man with a gunshot wound to his face.
They alerted his family who then rushed him to the Heideveld day hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Members of SAPS’ Flying Squad arrested three men between 22 and 25 years old in Kewtown on Monday March 18 on charges of being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
According to Western Cape SAPS spokesman, Siyabulela Malo, police received a tip-off in the early hours of the morning about three suspects in Kewtown with an unlicensed firearm.
The three men were apprehended, and police seized a 9mm pistol with 17 rounds of ammunition.
