Men march against abuse

Manenberg SAPS, in partnership with the Manenberg religious fraternity and the community police forum, held a men’s march on Sunday November 26 as part of its 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign. Although the march did not attract as many men as the organisers had hoped, Manenberg SAPS spokesman Captain Ian Bennett said it was a success despite the low numbers.
The organisers hoped to get 1 000 men to join the march, but only about 50 did. With the neighbourhood watches supporting the march, about 100 people took part.
Estwynn Malgas signed a pledge in which men promised to protect women and children, take responsibility for themselves and to love, protect and serve their families.
Colonel Sedick Hermanus from Manenberg SAPS also signed the pledge.
