Manenberg police are investigating the murder of a 25-year-old man who was shot and killed in the kitchen of his Gale Court home.
According to Manenberg police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, said it is alleged that the man was sitting in the kitchen on Saturday August 6, at 7.10am, when an unknown man opened the unlocked back door and fired several shots into the house, hitting the victim in the chest and legs. He died instantly.
The suspect fled the scene on foot and a case of murder has been opened for investigation.
*On Thursday August 4, at 2.05am, a police sergeant was shot while stationed at a voting station on the corner of Pliny and Laurence roads in Athlone.
He was attacked by four armed suspects and robbed of his service pistol.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel André Traut, said the member sustained a gunshot wound and was admitted to hospital in a stable condition.
The suspects fled the scene in a silver Toyota Avanza and are yet to be arrested. The second member stationed at the voting station at the time of the attack was not harmed in the incident.

* On the same day, at 4.45am, three men aged between 20 and 50, were arrested for the possession of a firearm and hijacking.
Police saw two men sitting in a Corsa bakkie in Manenberg when they stopped to do a routine check. According to Captain Bennett, the two men were asked why they were sitting there and they said that they were waiting for two other men sitting in a Mazda.
When police approached the vehicle, the men got out and ran away. Police then managed to corner and apprehend them. They found a .38 pistol hidden in the vehicle and on inspection discovered that the Corsa bakkie was reported hijacked.
* On Wednesday August 3, at 6.35am, a man was hit with a firearm and robbed of his cellphones while he and his friends were on their way to drop one of the friends at home.
While in Veld Road, Belgravia Estate, the complainant was approached by two unknown suspects who threatened him with a firearm and demanded his iPhone and BlackBerry cellphone. The suspects pulled him out of the vehicle and hit him with a firearm. They proceeded to rob the man and then fled the scene on foot.
* On the same day, a 33-year-old man was robbed in his shop in Thornton Road, Athlone, and police arrested a 21-year-old man for being in the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
In the first incident, two unknown men entered the shop and threatened the complainant with a firearm and robbed him of R300.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Traut, no shots were fired and no injuries were sustained.
In the second incident, Athlone police arrested the 21-year-old in the early morning hours while patrolling in Statice Heights in Kewtown.
While patrolling, police noticed the man riding a bicycle. The man then left his bicycle and when officers looked for him they found him lying next to a house in Statice Heights in Kewtown. He was searched and police found a black 7.65mm pistol, one magazine and seven rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect was arrested and the firearm was handed in as evidence.
