The College of Cape Town held a poetry competition for its students and on Tuesday May 30, the best among them received awards at the college’s Crawford campus.
Jarrod Bosch and Zikhona Ngamlana were selected as the winners, with Jarrod winning the “Nurture Nature” category with his poem, There Existed a Dream, and Zikhona winning the “Growing Up” category with her poem, Growing Up Dark-Skinned
The six runners-up were Asakhe Ndelela, Prescilla Ghall, Todd Scholtz, Zethu Mqikela, Liyema Sigidi, and Ludumo Mdingi.
Two other students, Songezo Mvalashe and Faatimah Sadan, received “honourable mention” certificates.
Jarrod said he had not expected to win because he felt there were other poems that were better than his. “But I’m happy to have been selected as the winner,” he added.
Zikhona said: “The competition had some very good poems. I am proud to have been included in such an esteemed circle of selected poems.”
