On Sunday July 23 a 19-year-old was shot dead while standing with friends in Lainsberg Road, Heideveld.
It is alleged that the 19-year-old had been shot by two men who fired at the group as the two approached them.
As the group scattered, the 19-year-old was hit in the head and died on the scene. The suspects fled the scene on foot.
A case of murder has been opened for investigation and no arrests have been made.
On the same day – and in the same road – a 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were left in a critical condition after being shot.
Manenberg police spokesman Captain Ian Bennett said a group of men had been standing at a tuck shop in Lainsberg Road, Heideveld, when they were approached by an unknown man who fired several shots at them, hitting the boy in the left eye and the 20-year-old in the right thigh.
The two injured men were rushed to Heideveld Emergency Centre, in a critical condition, for medical treatment. The suspect fled the scene on foot and no arrests have been made. A case of attempted murder has been opened for investigation.
On Friday July 21, the body of a 55-year-old known man was discovered in an open area along Vygieskraal Road close to Manenberg Avenue.
Manenberg police were called out by a resident to investigate the discovery of the man’s body.
According to Captain Bennett, there were no visible wounds on the body and they were therefore unable to determine the cause of his death.
The body will be taken to Salt River mortuary where an autopsy will be done to determine cause of death.
“At this stage no one saw anyone or the victim in the area,” he said.
A case of murder has been opened for investigation and no arrests have been made.
On Tuesday July 18 Athlone police arrested an 18-year-old man for the possession drugs while they were patrolling in Bokmakierie.
They discovered the suspect when they did a stop and search at the canal in Bokmakierie and found 47 units of heroin on him. He was arrested for possession of drugs.
On the same day, Athlone police arrested a man for the possession of drugs at a house in Lawrence Road, Athlone. Upon their search, they found 22 packets of tik, two packets each containing 8g of uncut tik and a scale with a sealer as well as R1 917.50 in cash.
The suspect was due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday July 24.
On Friday July 21 Athlone police arrested a man in Bokmakierie for the possession of an illegal firearm and drugs.
Police found two magazines, ammunition, tik and a firearm in a wendy house on the property. The man was arrested and was due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday July 24.
