A 70-year-old saxophonist wants to start a men’s band to entertain the elderly and children at care homes in Cape Town. Richard Esau has been playing the saxophone for 40 years. He is married, has four children, six grandchildren, and stays in Bonteheuwel. “I love playing the saxophone, it is very relaxing and the sound is melodious. It gives me a great feeling and people really enjoy it.” The men’s band, he says, will play three times a week, entertaining children as well the elderly, who he says are often lonely.”I want to play them some music so that they can sing and dance along to it. Old people love music; it reminds them of their youth.” His two sons, Jerome, and Morne, also play the sax, and his grandson, Keaton Adolf, plays the keyboard. Call Mr Esau at 071 609 7258 for more information.
