The Metro Police say they’ve recovered four firearms in the past five days thanks to tip-offs from the public.
The weapons confiscated include a rifle in Bonteheuwel, a 9mm pistol in Langa, a 9mm pistol in Manenberg and a .38 special revolver in Grassy Park.
Mayoral committee member for safety and security; and social services JP Smith said, “The Metro Police Department receives on average 30 tip-offs each week and we are heartened by this contribution from the public. The department has increased the number of targeted operations which means a more visible and sustained presence in high-crime areas. This has facilitated an increase in trust between staff and the communities who feel more secure in sharing information, as they are seeing results from the tip-offs that they provide, as was evident with three of the four firearms recovered in the last few days.”
