Winning a Nutec house worth R50 000 could not come at a better time for Michelle Akim of Bonteheuwel.
A shocked Ms Akim was announced the winner when her name was drawn at Elite Food Town in Gatesville on Saturday October 26.
She had recently resigned from work to take care of her mother full-time after her mother fell ill.
They live in a maisonette and her mother is not able to climb the stairs any longer.
For this reason, she wanted to build something in the backyard, to make it more comfortable for her mother. However, she did not have the funds available to do this immediately.
“God knew my heart. I’m shivering. I don’t know what to say. This was really God-sent,” Ms Akim said.
Floor manager, Reyaat Petersen, said the supermarket had run the promotion for three months, with shoppers standing a chance of winning the house if they bought certain products.
“We are a community store, and we wanted to give back to the community. All our reps (representatives) and suppliers pitched in to make this happen,” Mr Petersen said.
