Pictured are some city kids selected for various competitions, some of them in need of a bit of help to raise funds to cover their costs.Zara Page, 16, from Lansdowne, a Grade 10 pupil, at Rhodes High School has been selected to represent the Western Cape Darts Federation (WCDF) at the Darts South Africa national championships, due to be held at the Wild Coast Sun, in Port Edward, in the Eastern Cape, in July. A member of the Athlone-based Blades Darts Club which is affiliated to South Peninsula Recreational Association (SPRA) and has been playing darts her whole life as both her parents were born into darts as their parents, Zara’s grandparents also play the sport. Introduced to the competitive side of darts by the late Brandon October, a former member of St Luke’s Darts Club, a few years ago, this will be her first appearance at a national competition. Zara joined the Spra Youth Academy in 2021. The academy is a platform to develop young talent. A member of DG Orient FC, Fadiel, pictured here with the trophy his side won at the GreenSmile Tournament late last year, still needs to raise about R6 000 so he can travel with the rest of his club mates. To help raise funds, the youngster, a Grade 9 pupil at Mitchell’s Plain High School, has taken to selling snacks at school and door to door in his neighbourhood.
