A hard fought 28-18 win at home against Blakes has secured Hamediehs a place in the Super League C (SLA) next season.
The Vygieskraal-based outfit made full use of their home-ground advantage but were made to dig deep to secure the win.
Hamediehs and Van der Stel Evergreens have earned promotion. The win for the Athlone side was their sixth in seven games in the nine-team promotion league.
The league is made up of the top three sides from the City, Northern and Southern Leagues.
Their 30 points means they can not be caught by the third placed Masiphumelele on 24 points with one game remaining.
At the weekend the two sides went into the game both in need of victory as Blakes was still in with a chance for promotion if they could manage a win.
Hamediehs’ second half display shattered any chance Blakes had of catching them on the log.
Hamediehs entered the second half trailing 13-10 but were quick off the blocks, taking the lead through a try that came a few minutes after the re-start.
Despite the fight from Blakes, Hamediehs would never let go of their lead.
Hamediehs’ last game in the league against Northerns will not change the league standings and they can afford to take things easy in their last game of the season.
The third and last promotion spot is, however, still up for grabs in the season finale to be played on Saturday October 1.
Masiphumelele, Blakes, Violets and Sir Lowrians are all chasing the last remaining place.
Teams that finish third and forth will have a play-off match to determine the third side to join Hamediehs and Van der Stel.
After Masiphumelele in third place, on 24 points, the other three sides are all sitting on 19 points.
Elsewhere, City Park hosted the semi-finals of the super league matches at the weekend.
In Super League A (SLA), both the student teams lost their semi-final clashes. False Bay RFC were all over Maties, beating them 38-21 to set up a SLA final against Durbanville-Bellville who beat UCT 13-9 in another semi-final.
In the Super League B (SLB) semi-final, Helderberg and St Georges were both promoted to the SLA after wins against Belhar and Hands & Heart, respectively.
Newcomers in the SLB are CPUT and Strand who won their respective semi-finals against Macassar and Kylemore.
The losing semi-finalists in SLB and SLC will have another round of play-off matches as their quest for promotion still continues.
The winning semi-finalist, having secured promotion, will now play for league honours in the season finale.
