The Silvertown Bishop Area of the New Apostolic Church undertook an initiative to knit squares and stitch them together to make blankets for patients at Eikenhof Cancer Care Centre in Athlone.
A total of 124 blankets were knitted and were handed over to the centre on Sunday August 6.
The Bishop Area Well-Care co-ordinator, Charleen Davids, from the Athlone congregation, said a request was made by Bishop Anthony Hartzenberg to support the centre.
The project was earmarked for Mandela Day, but the hand-over of the blankets came just in time for Women’s Day.
The hand-over was done at Athlone congregation by the officiating minister, Bernard Scholtz, after the Sunday morning divine service, where the manager of Eikenhof, Michelle Hill, and three residents received the blankets.
