The City has warned of increased vandalism to street lights along Jan Smuts Drive and has urged the public to report incidents
“Our teams often need to repair the same damaged street light infrastructure. This month, City teams repaired and replaced 20 street lights along this stretch,” said Beverley van Reenen, mayoral committee member for energy.
“Our teams are on the ground, and we are looking into ways to further protect our infrastructure. However, we are pleading with the community to take ownership of the infrastructure by reporting any form of theft or vandalism to the necessary authorities. We need the support of community members to put an end to this scourge.”
Suspicious activity can be reported to the police or to the City.
Anonymous tip-offs were welcomed, and a reward of R5 000 would be given if tip-offs led to arrests, said the City.
